Triathlon Alberta launches new Tri-School Program in Edmonton region
Looking for a new way to engage your students at school? Triathlon Alberta has unveiled an innovative school program aimed at introducing students to the dynamic sport of triathlon. This initiative is part of their broader Youth & Junior programming, which seeks to nurture the next generation of athletes by providing them with comprehensive development opportunities.
The school program is designed to engage students in the fundamentals of triathlon, encompassing swimming, cycling, and running. By participating in a mini-triathlon held at your school or local recreation centre, students will gain valuable skills and experience in a supportive and encouraging environment. The program is tailored to accommodate various skill levels, ensuring that all students can benefit from the experience.
The program is also entirely customizable depending on the resources available to the school. The race can take the form of a triathlon (swim/bike/run), an aquathlon (swim/run), or a duathlon (bike/run). Triathlon Alberta provides the equipment necessary to run the race while the school provides the venue....and the students!
Best of all - the program is free! However, the school is responsible for booking the pool or fields.
Alexander Patton, the Sport Development Coordinator at Triathlon Alberta, emphasized the importance of this program in fostering a love for multisport activities among young athletes. "Our goal is to create a fun and educational experience that not only teaches the basics of triathlon but also promotes physical fitness and teamwork," Patton stated.
Triathlon Alberta's school program is open to schools across the Edmonton region (although schools outside of the Edmonton region are encouraged to contact us as well).
This initiative is a testament to Triathlon Alberta's commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and fostering a vibrant sporting community. By introducing young athletes to the exciting world of triathlon, they are paving the way for a new generation of multisport enthusiasts.
The program is currently offered in the spring and fall, however it is expected to be offered year-round with the opening of the Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre, a state-of-the-art triathlon and cycling facility in downtown Edmonton.
"We are so excited for the Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre to open in the next year as it will open up new opportunities for the sport of triathlon to grow in the Edmonton region with year-round programming" explains Sebastian Porten, executive director of Triathlon Alberta.
