Training Tip Tuesday October-December 2019
Training Tip #17 (December 10th 2019)
Having mental strength is one of the most crucial things in triathlon. It’s going to get hard at points during the race but you have to expect it and just keep digging in. Things will get better but you have to push through the bad times. At the end it’ll all seem worthwhile.
- Joe Skipper, Ironman Pro
Training Tip #16 (November 26th 2019)
It’s very important to listen to your body – when you feel pain you have to pay attention to it. It’s better to stop training, and begin again when you’re confident the pain has subsided.
- Javier Gomez, 5x ITU world champion
Training Tip #15 (November 12th 2019)
Run every time you get off the bike. This forces you to adapt to running on tired legs. Most of the time I run 5-15mins but once a week I make sure to get a race in that’s over 10km.
- Andrew Starykowicz, Ironman Pro
Training Tip #14 (October 29th 2019)
Nutrition, rather fueling, is the difference between a PB and DNF. Without proper daily fueling, pre/during/post training, you cannot hope to recover well enough to keep consistent. Without the proper ratios of macros, you won’t repair/refill your muscles for the next days activities. Race day fueling is paramount. The whole package is a deal breaker. Ensure enough fuel the night before, enough hydration the week before, and the correct fuel on board during the race for the conditions. Once the race is complete, keep it up with high quality (nutrient dense) food/recovery drinks.
- Danny, Zephyrs Tri Team
Training Tip #13 (October 15th 2019)
Practice swimming straight by swimming with your eyes closed for 9-10 strokes. This will help you learn to swim straight without looking at the black line on the bottom of the pool (practise this when the lane is clear!). A glance at the lane ropes will tell you which side you veer towards.
- Chrissie Wellington, 4x Ironman World Champion
Training Tip #12 (October 1st 2019)
It is natural for athletes to start thinking about next year today. With new and exciting events being announced for next season, don’t lose perspective on this season. Stay focused and committed to this year’s objectives and races
