Training Tip Tuesday August/September 2019

Training Tip #11 (September 17th 2019)

People neglect cycling and running drills. I did them. So on race day I would lose as little fitness as possible. I could be more efficient, not really falling apart halfway through the marathon because of the training drills. The reality is you should be doing drills all the time, year in and year out. I was different than a lot of pros by doing that.

- Peter Reid, Former Professional Canadian Ironman

Training Tip #10 (September 3rd 2019)

Triathletes, even though they are not confined to a weight class, should also keep weight relatively low since the lighter you are, the less stress you put on your joints.  The key is maintaining high power to weight ratio. Think about your FTP on the bike, if you can exert more power at the same weight, you’re going to be faster.

- Matt Onyszko, Strength and Conditioning Coach

Training Tip #9 (August 20th 2019)

The less turbulence caused while in the streamline position the easier it will be to maintain the speed created while pushing off the wall or diving. In short you get to go further, faster, with less effort. Therefore any effort you spend achieving the streamlined position will result in free speed

- Coach Glenn, St. Albert Gators

Training Tip #8 (August 6th 2019)

Goal setting, visualizing success, positive self-talk and emotional control are the four pillars of SEALS mental strength training. The “pillar” skills are developed the same way as physical skills, through structured learning and practice.

- Allan, Mental Performance Coach
