Introducing Edmonton’s Newest Tri Club
There's a new kid on the block this year in the Edmonton triathlon club scene, but with some familiar faces behind it. TRI-CHAMPS, which is an acronym for "Consistent, Holistic, Adapt, Meaningful, Potential, and Social", is the creation of coaches Doug Wickware and Paulina Stocker who started it last summer.
The club is a not-for-profit club that is dedicated to fostering a supportive and inclusive community for athletes of all ages and abilities, whether they are brand new to the sport or are experienced triathletes.
"Our coaching team takes a holistic approach to training, ensuring that each athlete - regardless of fitness level - receives a training stimulus suited to their goals and abilities." Doug Wickware explained. "We believe in adaptability and inclusivity, ensuring that everyone feels supported yet challenged."
The program is based in Edmonton and trains at various facilities and locations around the city such as the Booster Juice Recreation Centre in Terwillegar and the Kinsmen Sports Centre. Beyond Edmonton, TRI-CHAMPS is also working with youth in rural areas across Northern Alberta where they may not have access to a club close by therefore giving them the opportunity to train with a club and learn from experienced coaches, regardless of where they live.
Understanding that life is busy, the club offers flexible registration options. Athletes can attend as little as one workout per week or participate in multiple sessions with no minimum commitment required. Customed training plans are also offered as an option to those who are unable to attend their in-person sessions.
The club also sports a unique family-friendly training model that sets them apart from other clubs we typically see.
"We offer workouts where parents and their children can train at the same time and location." explains Wickware. "We encourage families to stay active together while benefiting from professional coaching in a motivating and fun environment."
TRI-CHAMPS recently attended their first triathlon event since becoming a club last month at the Edmonton Race the Prairies event at the Kinsmen Sports Centre.
"It was great to see some new faces in the sport at the first Edmonton event of the season!" executive director, Sebastian Porten said. "We hope the club continues to grow and expand in the future."
Whether you're a seasoned triathlete or new to triathlon, TRI-CHAMPS invites you to try a few sessions and experience their incredible community. More information can be found by clicking here.
