Event Sanctioning 2022

It is our pleasure to open sanctioning for the 2022 season. While there are similarities in the sanctioning process from previous years, we have made some changes to the process which will be outlined in this email.

SANCTIONING FEES:

New for 2022, we have updated our sanctioning fees to move towards a participant-based fee structure. We believe that in most scenarios, this will decrease the cost of sanctioning for race directors. With this, a new step has been added to the sanctioning process post-race which is outlined below as well as in the sanctioning fee document.

PROCESS:

Once the sanctioning application and documents are submitted and received along with a $150 base sanctioning fee, the application will be reviewed by Triathlon Alberta's office as well as the Technical Advisory Group. A conference call between the event organizer, Triathlon Alberta office, and the technical delegate will be organized to review the documents submitted. Once the review is complete and any changes are made, the application will be approved.

We are currently keeping COVID guidelines for the time being within the sanctioning document as, while we are hopeful, we do not know what the next year will look like. Our Technical Advisory Group is well versed in the COVID protocols and changes to sanctioning can be adapted quickly.

After the event, within the CCN Sanctioning Portal, a new tab will appear named "Post Event" where the race organizer will indicate the number of participants who attended the event. This will calculate the final sanctioning fee in which the race organizer can pay through CCN itself. Participants who attended the event will be based on finishers, DNF, and DSQ athletes.

While the new process may take time to get used to, Triathlon Alberta will be available and is more than happy to help during the process.

MEMBERSHIP CHECK SYSTEM:

Triathlon Alberta checks for memberships against the registration lists provided by race organizers. This is a very important process to ensure that all those registered are covered by insurance as well as protects the race organizers and Triathlon Alberta. Please ensure you are following this process as timely as possible as last minute checks may not always be possible. It is the overall the responsibility of the race organizer to ensure that all athletes have purchased an annual or day membership.

Additionally, we encourage all event organizers to transition to the NTRS system provided by CCN as this streamlines the process of sanctioning and membership checks as athletes can automatically be checked against registration and rules can be placed within the system to ensure only those with valid memberships register. This, in the end, saves on administration time for both Triathlon Alberta and the race organizer. For more information, please contact me at alexander@triathlonalberta.ca.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SPOTS

Lastly, for any event organizer that would be interested in purchasing age group world qualification spots, we have 2 spots available for Sprint Triathlon, Standard Triathlon and Standard Aquabike.

The Sprint and Standard Spots are $750 each while the Standard Aquabike Spots are $250 each.

For details on purchasing spots, please contact Sebastian at executive.director@triathlonalberta.ca

If an event organizer would like to purchase different spots then what TriAB has available, please let Sebastian know. Spots may be purchased HERE

We would like to end by taking a moment to thank not only our race organizers but also our Technical Advisory Group and all our officials who make our events possible. All of us at Triathlon Alberta are very excited for the 2022 race season and are looking forward to a great year.
