Victory Triathlon hosts Sprint and Standard Age Group World Qualifying Opportunities in Alberta in 2020

NOV 22, 2019

Edmonton, Alberta - With a record number of athletes lining up to represent Canada at the 2020 Grand Final World Championships in Edmonton next August, Triathlon Alberta will continue to push the Age Group World Championship Qualifying excitement into 2020.

“The opportunity for Age Group athletes to represent their Nation at a major World Championship is unique, as more often than not, participation in a World Championship is limited to only elite athletes,” said Winston To, Executive Director of Triathlon Alberta. “It is phenomenal what our Alberta Age Group athletes have accomplished and we need to celebrate these committed individuals pursuing excellence across every age category.”

Triathlon Canada’s Age-Group World Championship Teams consist of top-performing athletes who earn a spot at the provincial qualification race, going on to represent Canada on the world stage at the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Championships. Team members have the unique opportunity to proudly represent their country, participate in a unique team environment and celebrate their sport within the global multisport community.

The ITU holds both the Multisport World Championships, consisting of Aquabike, Aquathlon, Duathlon, Cross Triathlon and Long-Distance Triathlon and the Grand Final, hosting the World Championships in Sprint and Standard Distance Triathlon. Held in a different location every year, the World Championships and the Grand Final attract thousands of like-minded, top-performing, destination-minded age-group athletes from around the world and mark the end of the season for elite athletes.

Currently, there will be no qualification venues in Alberta for Aquabike, Aquathlon, Duathlon, Cross Triathlon and Long-Distance Triathlon for the 2021 World Multisport Championships in Townsville, Australia. Triathlon Alberta is working hard with our local Race Directors at this current moment to secure qualification venues for these distances.

The host venue in Alberta for the qualification spots for the 2021 Grand Final World Championships in Bermuda will be:

  • Sprint Triathlon

    • Victory Triathlon (2 spots) – June 20, 2020

  • Standard Triathlon

    • Victory Triathlon (2 spots) – June 20, 2020

Athletes who go on to earn an automatic spot at a designated qualifying event must also meet Triathlon Canada’s Eligibility Criteria.
